ERL has a track record from 1988 in achieving its
Corporate Mission goals, and several of its key personnel have
relevant track records stretching back much further than 1988. Its
principal Executive Director brought privatisation to Malawi in a
successful and massively insolvent and complex instance as far back as
1980 – before the concept was included in World Bank sponsored
Structural Adjustment Programmes. Our solutions are never preconceived
or taken “off a shelf”. Each assignment undertaken is based on
original research into the origins of a problem and most solutions are
based on extensive consultation with relevant interest groups
including interest groups often overlooked such as trade unions and
smallholder farmers, who are the decisive voter groups in the
democratic election process.
ERL takes pride in a reputation for absolute and uncompromising
integrity and for getting at the facts, including unpalatable facts,
and then structuring solutions that take them into account. We are not
a publicity-seeking organisation, however, and confidentiality is
assured. There are no ‘leaks’ from our office or from our personnel.
Our suggestions to clients have on occasion been ignored or deferred
but we have never had our work challenged or rejected as inadequate or
unacceptable on ground of quality, adherence to terms of reference or
late delivery attributable to us. Economic Resources Limited has left
only one job uncompleted in 15 years. The political will evaporated,
and we saw no point in carrying on working and collecting fees for a
solution that would never be implemented. Our
offices are in the heart of down-town Blantyre, the commercial centre
of Malawi, in Loita House, at the junction of Victoria Avenue and
Henderson Street. |
