• A major operations (and forensic audit) review of Malawi’s National
Food Reserve Agency in 2003 (jointly funded by DFID and the EU). The
findings and suggestions were very far-reaching and rose to the policy
level and the fundamentals of corporate governance, staffing, MIS and
best technical operating practices, and are currently in process of
implementation. Belmont acted as technical issues subcontractors.
• Total executive restructuring of a 40-division parastatal with
operations spread out over more than 1,000 kilometres and ranging from
intensive farming through garment manufacturing and road haulage to a
night club. Employment levels were halved (but the workforce
remotivated) and turnover doubled in real terms. Decentralisation of
decision-making and an introduction of timely and relevant MIS were
the keys (client funded from enhanced cashflow).
